Does horsepower in a car control how fast it goes?

As for both top speed and acceleration, yes. Lower horsepower means slower acceleration and a slower top speed.Does horsepower in a car control how fast it goes?
The more horsepower the faster %26amp; stronger the engine is, so the answer to your question is Yes.Does horsepower in a car control how fast it goes?
Horsepower is basically a unit of energy an engine outputs. Most of it is used to power the wheels, but speed also depends on the aerodynamics of the car, the weight of the car and lots of other factors.
YES
No, big shiny 20'; wheels control how fast it goes.
its proportional to the speed.

Torque is ultimately responsible
No, the paint job and amount of chrome it has on it does.
yes and no 2 cars with all other things equal hp with have a higher top end but take this in 2 cars are the same except for the hp say one has 50 hp more and the rear axles gears the +50hp is 3.89 and the reg engine has 3.06 the +50hp will take off faster and ge to the limit of its speed and the reg engine will catch and pass it because of the taller gears top speed is controled by several factors a weird example would be a nhra 8000hp dragster vs an indy 750hp car the dragster goes 334mph in 1320 ft and then blows up because it cant maintain that speed the indy car goes 232mph for over 500mi the same motor in the indy car has been used at bonniville salt flats and gone over 400mph. hope this makes sense to you and helps
Theres a lot things that factor in..

1st off lets think about ';horsepower'; it's just a math figure from torque.. Torque does the work.. horsepower = torque x rpm / 5252

The look at weight.. Lower weight can be moved with less torque.. So lower weight and higher torque = faster.

Then aero of the car. A corvette will have less aero/wind drag than a full size pickup truck.. Any car with same torque, weight, but less aero drag will have a higher top speed than same weight/torque car with higher drag..

Then you get into gearing.. transmission and rear end gear ratios.. Lower (higher number) gear ratios will have a faster rate of accel, but less top speed
