How long does it take for the IUD (Birth-control) to take into affect?

I just got it today and wonder how long I should wait to have intercourseHow long does it take for the IUD (Birth-control) to take into affect?
Birth Control takes about a month, one pack, to take affect. I was told that when i went and got birth control for the first timeHow long does it take for the IUD (Birth-control) to take into affect?
This is incorrect information. An IUD is completely different from birth control pills.

With pills your birthing ability is affected through hormones while IUDs stop eggs from dropping into the uterus, meaning they can't be fertilized.

It depends on what type of IUD you get.

I have the ParaGard IUD and I LOVE it. It is hormone free. It DOES protect you from pregnancy immediately. Infact, it can even be used as an emergency contraceptive if put in place within 5 days after unprotected sex.

The Mirena IUD however, releases progestin, therefore it is recommened that you use a barrier method for one week after insertion, just like when you get on the pill.
If it's in your uterus, then you're ready to roll!!

Have fun with your new friend!
wait about a month just to be safe
